Residents of a Cumbria village are hoping a scarecrow will put the brakes on speeding drivers.
The straw-stuffed figure has been stationed on a street corner in Crosby-on-Eden. It is armed with a ‘speed gun’ made out of a plastic bottle and villagers say from a distance it looks like a genuine police officer. The aim is to stop people driving too fast through the village, which has an infant school and a kindergarten.
Resident David Sowden said the situation used to be ‘very, very bad’ but the scarecrow had had a noticeable impact on drivers.
