Theresa Casbard to step down as director of finance

After a lengthy period overseeing the finances of Road Safety GB, Theresa Casbard is stepping down from the post of director of finance on 31 March.

Theresa first took up the post of treasurer (now director of finance) in 2003 when her colleague from Hertfordshire, Wendy Broome, stepped down as chair of LARSOA (now Road Safety GB).

Theresa worked for Hertfordshire County Council’s road safety team for more than 33 years, rising from assistant road safety officer to head of road safety when she retired in 2011.

Prior to becoming treasurer, Theresa was Road Safety GB Policy & Management representative for the eastern region. She also represented LARSOA on the Prince Michael Awards’ judging panel for approximately five years.

Theresa Casbard said: “I have really enjoyed working with the various Road Safety GB management teams over the years, and will miss being part of such an excellent body.

“I wish Road Safety GB and the Academy, and all members, much continued success.”

Honor Byford, chair of Road Safety GB, said: “When Theresa left the Hertfordshire road safety team, we were fortunate that she offered to help us with the financial side of our work. This is an unsung but vitally important task – get the finances wrong and everything goes wrong.

“I don’t think Theresa had any idea of how this would grow from a modest bookkeeping role to becoming director of finance for a national organisation, a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity – a far cry from those early days!

“Theresa has grown with the role and we would not be where we are without her tireless, meticulous work. She has done her research for us and given us sound advice.

“Theresa has always worked for the best interests for the organisation and its members, developing excellent relations with other organisations, our sponsors and the Department for Transport.

“We all owe Theresa a great debt and are very grateful for her hard work – which has always gone way beyond the modest hours per week we actually paid her for!

“We wish Theresa a very happy second retirement and send our best wishes to her husband, Alan, who thinks he is going to see more of his wife – but if I know Theresa she will already have plans for other busy tasks!”

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Theresa, both in the Eastern Region and more latterly in her RSGB role. Her positivity and professionalism always shine though and our organisation and profession owes her a huge amount.

Have a great retirement Theresa. x

It’s been a pleasure working with Theresa, albeit all too briefly. Personally I cannot think of anything more intimidating and horrendous than managing the finances of an organisation and it’s been a real privilege to watch (at a safe distance!) Theresa do this with such competence, enthusiasm and remarkable good humour!

Enjoy the retirement Theresa, you’ve more than earned it. Again!
