Top turnout for cycling campaign

14.14 | 9 June 2011 |

More than 300 children cycled through the streets of Claremorris in Ireland as part of a road safety campaign, delivered by Mayo County Council.

Equipped with bicycles, helmets and high-vis vests the children manoeuvred their way through traffic, demonstrating the skills they’ve learnt from cycling proficiency courses at their schools.

The event on 9 June saw specially trained Garda cyclists pass on road safety advice, which could prove vital to help keep the children safe on the road.

The children were split into teams comprising three students and each team also had a judge.
