St Helens’ Road Safety and Travel Awareness team invited scout and guide leaders from across the borough to a road safety training evening at St Helens Town Hall.

The team offered a range of information, resources and activities to help the leaders inspire youngsters to gain their road safety and cycling badges. The team has also loaned a roll-out road and a DVD pack to help them in their mission.

Councillor Sue Murphy said: “We wanted to recognise the value of scouters and guiders in helping us to deliver important road safety messages to young people. They volunteer to do this and we wanted to offer them some support and to help make their role a bit easier.”

Diane Roberts, PR officer for girl guiding in St Helens, said: “By working together in partnership we can ensure that we help our children to develop their road safety awareness and stay safer on the roads.”

Terry Gregson, PR officer for scouting in St Helens, said: “This is a great training opportunity for our leaders who are all volunteers. We have found some great ideas to take back to our groups and enable the children to gain some valuable experience and badges.”
