“Using the road, respect the code!”

Buckinghamshire Council has launched a new campaign, featuring an interactive quiz, to improve knowledge of the hierarchy of road users.

In January 2022, changes were made to the Highway Code. One of these changes was the introduction of the ‘hierarchy of road users’, designed to help protect the most vulnerable road users.

Pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and motorcyclists are all most likely to be injured in the event of a collision. This means they are at the top of the hierarchy. Children, older adults and disabled people are also considered to be more at risk.

Buckinghamshire Council says many road users are still not aware of the impact these changes have had on how they navigate the roads.

As a result, its Network Safety team has worked with The Stationery Office (TSO) and DVSA to create an interactive quiz that allows road users to test their knowledge – and fill in any knowledge gaps.

The quiz is available via the Buckinghamshire Council website.
