Westcotec sings the praises of Project EDWARD

Project EDWARD remains the one initiative that ‘really consolidates efforts’ right across the road safety sector.

That’s according to the Norfolk-based road safety technology firm Westcotec, who is preparing to play a full part in next month’s Project EDWARD week of action (13-17 September).

The theme for Project EDWARD 2021 is ‘Fit for the Road’ and the three road trips will start in Ely, Dundee and Plymouth.

Each will be driven in an electric car and will set out to highlight examples of good practice in techniques, policies and strategies that reflect the principles of the Safe System, a generic term for approaches such as ‘Vision Zero’, ‘Sustainable Safety’ and ‘Towards Zero’.

A supporter of Project EDWARD since 2016 and this year a platinum sponsor, Westcotec will be attending a number of events during the road trips.

Chris Spinks, Westcotec managing director, said: “Each year we have seen the initiative grow. We love the energy of the EDWARD team and we are very pleased and proud to have secured a place among the top three sponsoring organisations for 2021.

“EDWARD remains the one initiative that really consolidates efforts right across the sector – from government, highways authorities, police, fire and road safety organisations through to business fleets, local commerce, victims’ associations and individuals.

“There isn’t another road safety campaign that achieves this so well in its engagement and its social media activity. I think it is therefore perfectly placed for expansion across the world, and I am happy to commit our long-term support for Project EDWARD as it looks to make an impact in other parts of the world.”

The National Police Chiefs’ Council and the National Fire Chiefs Council confirmed their involvement in Project EDWARD 2021 earlier in the year, and the event is also supported by the DfT, Highways England, GoSafe Wales, Police Scotland and the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
