Commercial drivers face a growing cluster of health risks, including high rates of obesity, sleep disorders, diabetes and hypertension, all linked to elevated collision risk and earlier mortality. Long hours, irregular shifts, lone working and limited access to healthy food and healthcare create a “stressogenic” environment that undermines both physical and mental health. Emerging evidence shows that structured workplace interventions, targeted health promotion and better access to clinical support can significantly improve wellbeing, reduce crashes and enhance productivity, offering clear benefits for drivers, operators and wider society.
