A panel of road safety practitioners will share their experiences of commissioning, producing or deploying a virtual reality film, as part of next month’s ICE Live event.
ICE Live is the UK’s first conference focused on road and community safety virtual reality education.
Organised by FirstCar and the ICE Hub, the event takes place on Wednesday 19 October 2022, hosted by West Midlands Police at their Tally Ho Conference & Banqueting Centre, Edgbaston.
It is being supported by Road Safety GB.
The agenda is now complete, with Mark Born, the AA Driving School’s head of driving instructor training academy, among the latest speakers to be announced.
His presentation will look at how the AA Driving School is elevating the training and education of driving instructors through virtual reality.
In 2020, the AA Driving School developed a virtual reality influenced instructor training course, bringing six virtual training cars and 12 trainee instructors into a workshop environment to develop key skills and competencies.
The course consists of more than 120 guided learning hours through online learning, online classrooms, and supervised in-car driving lessons.
Meanwhile, details have also been announced of a session featuring six speakers with first-hand experience of virtual reality films.
They will talk candidly about their experiences with virtual reality including the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges using their own real-world examples.
The panel includes:
- Alan Hiscox, director of safety, British Horse Society
- Adrian Spencer and Mark Campbell, West Midlands Fire/Police
- Duncan Dollimore, head of campaigns, Cycling UK
- Jan James, director, Good Egg Safety
- James Warner, road safety officer, Devon & Somerset Fire Service
The content of ICE Live 2022 is designed to appeal to a wide range of professionals who are both actively using VR and keen to expand their knowledge and to those who wish to explore the possibilities VR can bring to enhance their educational work.
Delegate registration is open, with a discounted rate available for Road Safety GB members.
Please note that bookings will be secured on a first-come-first-served basis and there is a maximum capacity of just 250 for the event.
