Road Safety GB is teaming up with Dorset Council and TMS Consultancy to host a webinar on the updated Assessment of Walked Routes to School guidelines.
The guidelines exist to help officers carry out assessments on walked routes to school where the journey is below the statutory distance.
The assessments are normally required where it is claimed that the route is not safe and therefore the local authority should provide free transport.
These guidelines were originally published by Road Safety GB in 2012 and have most recently been updated at the end of 2025.
This webinar will take place between 10-10:45am on Thursday 5 March. Click here to register.
It will provide:
- An overview of the latest updates to the guidelines which have been introduced to improve consistency and aid clarity within the document.
- The benefits of reviewing historic walked routes assessment decisions with an example of a historic route review in Dorset.
- An outline of the Walked Routes to School training course delivered by TMS Consultancy, incorporating further detail on risk assessment methodology and its practical application to walked routes.
There will be a Q&A section at the end of the webinar.
Please note, this webinar is open to all to attend.
