With the number of confirmed attendees already standing at 168, final numbers for the National Road Safety Conference 2012 once again look set to top 200 – for a fourth consecutive year.
The conference is being hosted by Road Safety GB London Region at the Britannia International Hotel, Canary Wharf, 14-15 November. The event is co-sponsored by Colas, RedSpeed International, Alcolock UK and AA DriveTech.
The exhibition that runs alongside the conference is also proving popular, with 24 organisations participating. In fact, the exhibition is almost fully subscribed.
The organisers are keen to stress that while number are healthy, there is still availability for people wishing to attend.
Sally Bartrum, who is managing delegate registration, said: “We’ve had a number of calls recently from people asking if the conference is fully subscribed.
“Fortunately, with the Britannia being a larger venue than in previous years, there is still plenty of space for additional attendees as the conference room can hold up to 400 people.
“However, we have only reserved 150 bedrooms at the hotel, most of which have now been allocated. As such, I’d encourage delegates wishing to book the residential package to do so as soon as possible. We may be able to get some additional bedrooms, but there is no guarantee.”
The cost of attending the two-day conference starts at £85 plus VAT per day for day delegates and £295 plus VAT for residential delegates (Road Safety GB members).

Good point Idris – I usually post in my own professional capacity giving my personal opinion, not as a spokesperson for RSGB. In future, when I am posting in my role as Vice Chair of RSGB, I shall annotate my post so that it is clear I am speaking on the organisation’s behalf.

I am pleased by your reply, albeit I had not realised – perhaps I should have done – that you speak for RSGB. I am hoping to be able to come, but cannot be sure due to my elderly aunt’s worsening mobility. It will have to be a last moment decision.
One problem 2 years ago – in my view – was that each speaker took the whole of the allotted time leaving no time for comments or questions, except for a separate Q+A session on the second day.

Our conferences are an environment in which the most up to date technical and professional matters are presented and discussed and a wide variety of views are always expressed. I think Road Safety ETP practitioners are very well known for their commitment to their subject and for their undoubted ability to articulate and discuss any and all related issues without fear or favour. Can we expect to see you there?

About 4 years ago I told the then new head of the European Parliament, when he was speaking at the LSE, that by fining two MEPs, Danieln Hannan and Roger Helmer £1,000 each for “showing dissent” and telling them that “dissent is not alloweed” he showed that he did not understand democracy. Will dissent be allowed at your Conference, as it should be to make a lively and informative debate? Or will it be more a series of lectures?
