The third edition of the Scottish Biker magazine, aimed at motorcyclists who ride in the West of Scotland, was unveiled last Sunday (20 March).

The magazine is written ‘for bikers by bikers’ and covers all aspects of riding, with a focus on safety.

Delivered through Road Safety West of Scotland, the magazine is supported by the region’s 12 local authorities, Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue.

The current edition includes information on basic skills and advanced training, as well as tips on maintenance and equipment. It also features popular routes and covers issues bikers regularly encounter, from the skills of cornering to where to get a cup of coffee.

Around 400 bikers attended the magazine launch at a ride-in event at the Inveraray Inn. Road Safety West of Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue, MOTOScotland, Marty’s Charity and the IAM were all represented at the event, along with a delegation from the West (of Scotland) Safety Camera Unit and Police Scotland motorcyclists.

Councillor Alistair MacDougall, Argyll and Bute Council, said: “We are delighted that riders come to enjoy our scenery and our roads, but have concerns at the number of motorcycle casualties we have seen in recent years.

“Motorcyclists are roughly 35 times more likely to be killed in a road traffic accident than car occupants, per mile ridden. We hope the magazine will help to focus the attention of bikers on all aspects of their riding, particularly given that the articles are written by people who share their interest.”
