Leeds City Council’s road safety team marked Ride to Work Day (21 July) with a biker’s breakfast in the city centre.
Commuter riders were offered free bacon butties and mugs of tea while discussing road safety issues with road safety team members and officers from the West Yorkshire Police Bikesafe team. The mayor of Leeds also came along to talk bikes at the event, which was part of National Motorcycle Week.
Dave Glanville, West Yorkshire’s PTW RSO, said: "Events like this are a great way to engage with commuter riders.
“There is a common perception that riders are most at risk on fast rural routes. While that may be true in some areas of West Yorkshire, a lot of our casualties occur in peak morning and evening commuter times.
“We’re offering advice about dealing with heavy traffic and how they can help to keep themselves safer, as well as raising awareness among other motorists that they need to ‘THINK bike’.”
