Project EDWARD is facilitating a special online interview with chief constable Jo Shiner, marking five years since she took on the role of National Police Chiefs’ Council lead for Roads Policing.

During that period, CC Shiner has provided national leadership focused on making roads safer, reducing death and serious injury, tackling crime and strengthening partnership working across the road safety community.

In conversation with Project EDWARD’s James Luckhurst, CC Shiner will reflect on how roads policing has evolved over the past five years and what must happen next to reduce road harm.

The discussion will explore the development and delivery of the NPCC National Roads Policing Strategy, the growing use of data and intelligence, and the continued importance of combining enforcement, engagement and education to influence safer behaviour on the roads.

The event takes place at 10am on 3 June, click here to register.

James Luckhurst said: “CC Shiner has brought enormous enthusiasm, energy and conviction to the national roads policing role. She has consistently raised the profile of road safety, spoken powerfully about the need to prevent avoidable deaths and serious injuries, and championed the wider value of roads policing in tackling criminality as well as protecting the public.

“The session will also look at the wider pressures and opportunities that have shaped roads policing during her tenure, including police resourcing, technological change, public trust and the need for strong collaboration between policing, government, local authorities, charities and business.”

Attendees will be able to help shape the discussion by submitting questions for CC Shiner in advance when they register. A small number of participants may also be invited to put their questions directly to CC Shiner during the live event, with their microphone and camera enabled, and those selected will be notified in advance.
