Council funds cycle training for women

Women in the London borough of Harrow are benefitting from free training as part of a cycling initiative launched by Harrow Council.

Learner cyclists who have never ridden through to experienced riders are joining weekly sessions run by Cycle Experience, part of the TTC Group, on behalf of the council.

The Harrow Women’s Bike Club is free for women who live or work in Harrow and open to all, whatever their cycling ability or fitness level. 41 women, aged from 23 to 77 years, have enrolled in the club since it launched in January.

To date the weekly training sessions have covered basic cycling and maintenance skills including fixing punctures and knowing how to adjust brakes. Participants also learn how to map a route, plan a journey, and about rider nutrition and essential equipment. Good cycling posture and stretching are also skills learned on the course. During the summer the group will be on the road for evening cycling sessions.
