Devon County Council’s road safety team has developed a new course to introduce evidence based practice to road safety and injury prevention professionals.

The course has been developed at three levels. Level 1 develops participants’ skills and knowledge about commissioning services and products. Level 2 covers researching and ensuring work streams are based on a clear evidence base. Level 3 covers providing services and products through a clear evidence base with monitoring and evaluation.

Key learning points on the Level 1 course include; an appreciation of evidence based practice and its various benefits; knowledge of the variety of evidence available for injury prevention; the ability to form appropriate questions and find relevant evidence; and the capacity to identify and understand a problem and an aptitude to form goals, aims and objective.
