The DfT is seeking assistance in recruiting volunteers from the “driving for work sector” to participate in a research project relating to young drivers.
The research is being undertaken to enable the DfT to better understand the views of young drivers, parents of young drivers and organisations that employ drivers, on topics including learning to drive, the risks of driving, and potential interventions to improve young drivers’ safety.
Priti Khatri from the DfT said: “We are seeking help in recruiting volunteers from the driving for work sector; in particular, we would like to hear from those who have responsibility for hiring staff (general managers), well-being of staff (HR managers) and vehicles (fleet managers).
“We appreciate that for SMEs and some other organisations these titles may not be applicable, so to ensure that all businesses are represented within the research anyone who manages younger drivers would be ideal.”
Participants will be interviewed in-depth by telephone on topics including driver safety, considerations when hiring and employing drivers (particularly those aged 17-24 years), and interventions to reduce the number of collisions involving young drivers.
The research findings will inform future policy decisions on potential interventions to improve young driver safety.
