Every little ‘elps – Tesco Dotcom triumphs at RoSPA Awards

Tesco Dotcom has won RoSPA’s Managing Occupational Road Risk (MORR) Trophy for the third consecutive year.

It was presented with the award in recognition of its effective and cohesive MORR programme, which is supported by historical performance data.

The MORR Trophy is presented annually as part of RoSPA’s Occupational Health and Safety Awards, which are sponsored by NEBOSH (the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health).

Colas Limited was highly commended in the MORR category and CEMEX UK was also applauded. More than 30 other firms won non-competitive MORR achievement awards at bronze, silver or gold levels.

Tom Mullarkey, chief executive of RoSPA, said: “Tesco Dotcom has proved once again that it has an exemplary system for managing occupational road risk and we offer our congratulations for its third consecutive MORR Trophy success.

“It has been estimated that up to a third of road crashes involve someone who is at work at the time. We hope the example set by Tesco Dotcom and our other MORR award winners will inspire even more firms to do their bit to prevent at-work road accidents.”

    I can understand where Dave is coming from, however, there is some help out there for small businesses. In some cases this comes from their insurers who will, in many cases, offer help and advice on training and have been known to also offer financial support through reduced premiums and even paying for the training.
    It will, no doubt, be argued that this is a good selling point which, of course, it is, but let’s not knock any organisation, big or small, that is doing something positive to improve safety on our roads.

    While it’s great that firms such as Tesco are embracing the driving for work issue it’s relatively easy for huge multinational firms to shell out a bit of cash and implement a solid strategy and indulge in a bit of back slapping. It’s the small firms, the one man bands and the grey fleet that really need reaching with MORR and the ones that need most help understanding the implications of it for their businesses.
