Facebook-ing up to road safety

The regional theatre tour was delivered by Huddersfield based ‘Theatre &’ and funded with support from Nexus, the East Gateshead Bus Partnership, and local authority road safety teams.

The stage show – entitled ‘Josh Green Posted On Your Wall’ has visited 52 of the region’s schools performing to almost 9000 pupils to deliver the message that careless and reckless behaviour around traffic and on public transport can lead to serious injury and death.

The story line is based around 3 characters, Josh, Sarah & Zac, and examines their behaviour at the roadside and whilst using public transport. Throughout the show a rear projection screen supports the action by becoming the backdrop of the required scene, displaying pictures and videos and representing the ‘Facebook’ pages that the characters look at and post on.

A number of video clips filmed on mobile phones are also used to illustrate and underpin the behaviours that are explored within the show. Post-show workshops followed each event to explore the themes covered during the performance.

Angela Burnett, Road Safety Officer from Gateshead Council said: “This is a highly innovative scheme which seeks to explore a very real problem using every day situations that some of the people most likely to be victims can relate to.
