FirstCar to sponsor National Conference

FirstCar – the UK’s only dedicated young driver magazine – is the third confirmed sponsor for the 2013 National Road Safety Conference.

The 2013 National Road Safety Conference will take place in Harrogate (13-14 November) and is being hosted by the Yorkshire and Humberside Region. More than 140 people have already registered to attend the event and 16 organisations have signed up for the accompanying exhibition.

FirstCar joins Colas and AA DriveTech as co-sponsors of the event. All of the money raised through sponsorship is used to subsidise the delegate rate for Road Safety GB members, and to offset the cost of staging the event.

FirstCar is the brainchild of James Evans, who first had the idea for the magazine while still attending sixth form, and remains publisher today. Since the first issue was published in 2004, more than 3.5 million copies of FirstCar have been distributed among learner and newly qualified drivers.

The FirstCar Young Driver’s Guide is published annually in March. The magazine’s mission is “to provide quality information and advice about learning to drive, buying and running your first car, staying safe on the roads and keeping your costs down”.

In a recent development, FirstCar has begun producing two new magazines in partnership with the DSA, which are handed to every new driver when they take their theory and practical tests.

Nick Rawlings, a member of the conference organising committee, said: “This is excellent news for Road Safety GB and FirstCar.

“I’ve known James Evans since FirstCar was launched and have always been impressed by his enthusiasm for the magazine and commitment to enhancing the safety of young drivers. The fact that FirstCar has become an established and valuable publication is due in no small measure to James’ drive and determination.

“It’s great to have the FirstCar team on board for the 2013 National Conference, and we are looking forward to working with them to maximise the road safety benefits of this new partnership.”
