Bike Tyre Safety Month 2011 will run throughout April to highlight the dangers of riding motorcycles and scooters on defective and worn tyres.
As part of the campaign, which is being run by TyreSafe, motorcycle dealers and repairers, tyre retailers and motorcycle accessory shops are being encouraged to offer free tyre safety checks to their customers.
The campaign is designed to raise awareness about these serious safety issues and to help reduce the number of motorcyclists killed or injured on the UK’s roads as a result of tyre related accidents.
There is a range of support material available free of charge including; a press advertising template, free pressure and tread check posters and a motorcycle tyre safety leaflet.

There is no doubt that correct tyre pressures are important, it’s the only little contact with the road. What is surprising in the initial feed is that it states and I quote ‘and help reduce the number of motorcyclists killed or seriously injured on the UK’s roads AS A RESULT OF TYRE RELATED ACCIDENTS.’
NEVER BEFORE HAVE I HEARD OR HAD AN ADMISSION THAT THIS IS A REASON, OR EVEN CONSIDERED AS A CONTRIBUTORY FACTOR IN ANY BIKE RELATED ACCIDENTS.
I am aware that some will ride with bald or at least poorly maintained tyres and some will even put less pressure in as they do on a racing circuit and these should be advised as to the consequence as should someone who takes on a pillion and fails to increase the rear tyre pressure or even to reduce pressure when alone again on a bike.
So come on and lets be telling them.
