Good Egg Safety launches new drivers’ guide

The Good Egg team has launched a new guide for young drivers, which is backed by a competition to win a new car.

The Good Egg Guide for New Drivers is aimed at 17-25 year olds and gives safety advice and tips on passing the test, purchasing a car, insurance and how to avoid losing your licence. An allocation of free copies of the guide will be distributed to road safety teams across the UK.

The guide is endorsed by Road Safety GB and has been developed with input from researchers, psychologists, road safety professionals and law enforcement practitioners.

Professor Steve Stradling, from Edinburgh Napier University and a member of Good Egg Safety’s National Steering Group, said: “Young, novice drivers need re-calibrating: the driving task is more demanding than young drivers think it is, partly because they don’t feel the fear and partly because they are not as competent as they think.”

Dr Neale Kinnear, principal psychologist at TRL, said: “There are ways for new drivers to reduce their personal risk, such as reducing their exposure to the most risky situations; this guide explains and outlines why this is important and how this can be done.”

The new guide is supported by the Arnold Clark Group and is backed by a prize draw that offers young drivers the chance to win a brand new Chevrolet Spark, valued at £9,000. The Spark is an ideal first car with a four star NCAP safety rating, six air bags and five-year warranty.

Sir Arnold Clark, chairman and chief executive of the group, said: “I regard this new guide to be essential reading for every new driver and I cannot recommend it highly enough.”
