Hard work recognised at road safety event

Volunteers and members of staff who help keep schoolchildren safe on the road were thanked at an annual school crossing patrol (SCP) and road safety seminar in Caerphilly.

The event, which brought together more than 110 Kerbcraft volunteers, road safety officers and SCPs from across Caerphilly county borough, also looked at new initiatives for the forthcoming year.

Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection, engineering and transport, said: “Our road safety team, together with a network of volunteers and SCPs, work tirelessly to ensure youngsters know about the importance of road safety, and to ensure their safety coming to and going home from school.

“We have a wide variety of initiatives, such as the Kerbcraft scheme and Walking Buses, and I am delighted that those who work so hard have been thanked.”

Pupils from Blackwood Comprehensive School, who recently won a national multimedia competition, also attended the event. Their film about the dangers associated with drink driving beat entrants from across Wales.
