Hertfordshire Biker magazine, produced by the council’s road safety unit, has won a CIPR Excellence Award.
The magazine was short-listed in the ‘Publications’ category and team members were presented with the winning trophy at a ceremony in London on 7 July.
The awards recognise and reward best practice in public relations throughout the UK and acknowledge personal and team achievement at the highest professional level.
Kevin Taylor, CIPR president, said: “From more than 900 entries and 145 finalists emerge 26 winners. This shows what a remarkable achievement it is to win one or our awards. The winners have proven themselves to be amongst the best in their industry and have highlighted just what excellent PR work can achieve.”
The judges commented that they were were particularly impressed by the strength of the publication’s thorough integration of its niche motorcyclist readership, exemplified by its authentic passion for biking and regular consultation with bikers.
They were also impressed by its resemblance to retail biking publications in look, feel and content – to the extent that when judges opened the box they wondered what a biker magazine was doing in there (there was no council branding on the cover!).
Stuart Pile, executive member for highways & transport, said: “Feedback on the magazine from the motorcycling community has been overwhelmingly positive, so we are delighted that our fellow campaigning professionals have also recognised its quality.
“The magazine is one of our most effective tools for communicating safety messages to this vulnerable group.”

I can vouch for how good the magazine is. Congratulations to Simon and his team.
