This session at NRSC 2025 will discuss the issue of e-scooters – and other forms of micromobility – and the potential benefits they offer as an affordable and sustainable form of transport.
National Road Safety Conference (NRSC) is Road Safety GB’s flagship event. For the past two years, it has attracted almost 400 attendees and has sold out.
NRSC 2025 is being held at Wyboston Lakes Resort, located adjacent to the A1 between Cambridge and Milton Keynes. It is being hosted by Road Safety GB Eastern Region and is co-sponsored by National Highways, Jenoptik and Westcotec.
For NRSC 2025, more than 250 people have already registered to attend, and the conference committee received around 100 submissions from people wanting to speak at conference. In addition, 20 organisations have already signed up to exhibit at the event.

The e-scooters session comprises the following five presentations:
Safety Lessons from Five Years of E-Scooter Trials
Harry Foskin, Public Policy Manager & Jim Hubbard, Head of Public Policy, Voi Technology (both)
E-scooter trials have been running in the UK since July 2020. In this presentation, Voi Technology, which operates e-scooters in 18 towns and cities across the UK, has facilitated over 40 million rides, will delve into the safety lessons they have learned.
Evaluating hazard anticipation and risk-taking behaviour in novice and experienced e-scooter riders
Dr Petya Ventsislavova, Senior lecturer in Psychology, Nottingham Trent University
This research project at Nottingham Trent University assessed hazard prediction skills and the tendency to engage in risky behaviours among e-scooter riders, evaluating whether these skills improve with riding experience.
Micromobility – Frameworks for Regulations to Support Future Innovation
Dr Ianto Guy, Senior Consultant, TRL
This presentation will discuss proposals made by TRL to the DfT and European Commission for future frameworks for micromobility regulations.
E-Scooters (& other micromobility): Safety Considerations
Ryan Lowry, Police Co-Ordinator, Irwin Mitchell
This presentation will cover a range of topics including: data which shows many e-scooters involved in collisions have underlying maintenance issues; e-scooter design issues that cause collisions; working with the authorised trial operators to improve safety; and best practice for road safety professionals around educational and social media campaigns.
Using Micromobility Data to Drive Road Safety Innovation Across Europe
Alexander Pazuchanics, Head of Policy and Partnerships, Vianova
Vianova partners with over 70 cities across Europe to harness connected micromobility data – primarily from shared e-scooter schemes – to support safer, more efficient urban transport systems. This presentation will share the latest insights and innovations in how cities are using real-time data and dynamic policy management to improve the safety of micromobility users and the wider public.
