Joining the Dots – one month to go

10.26 | 25 January 2023 |

Delegate registration remains open for the 2023 edition of Joining the Dots – which takes place on 1 March.

Now into its 8th year, Joining the Dots provides support and guidance for the road safety profession, other stakeholders and the wider community.

The 2023 will take place in a hybrid format, with a live in person conference taking place at The Studio in Birmingham on 1 March.

However, for those unable attend in person, it will also be broadcast live online.

Delegate registration remains open, with discounts available for Road Safety GB and MAST members.

What’s on the agenda?
This year the conference will be tackling the important issue of where data gaps might result in underserved populations.

The day is split into four different themed sessions, beginning with the keynote speaker, Marianne Weinreich, market manager for Smart Mobility at Ramboll.

Her job is to advise cities on how to make mobility people-centred and sustainable.

The first session of the day will discuss data gaps and inequality in data, beginning with Dr Rachael Aldred, professor of transport at the University of Westminster, who will present the ‘inequalities in self reported injury risk’.

Zoe Cotton, safety strategy manager at TfL will follow with her presentation ‘unequal road outcomes’ before Philip McAleese, co-founder of SeeSense will deliver a presentation about ‘riding behaviours’.

Delegates will also hear from Nicola Wass, CEO of So-Mo about their ethnographic research into seatbelt use.

This year’s panel discussion will centre around ‘Data for the Safe System’ and will be hosted by professor Nick Reed, founder of Reed Mobility.

He will be joined by Will Cubbin from the Safer Essex Roads Partnership, Tanya Fosdick from Agilysis, Neale Kinnear from Humn and John Cartledge from Gaist.

The third session will discuss ‘Stats19’ and the other data sources available to enhance analysis. It features Katherine Williamson, Mike Dark and Matthew Tranter (all DfT) and Nathan Harpham from TRL.

The day will draw to a close with a session on ‘Understanding the road network’. Professor Nick Reed from Reed Mobility, Dr Craig Smith and Bruce Walton (both Agilysis) will explore new ways of assessing and understanding networks.
