Jim Fitzpatrick, MP for Poplar and Limehouse and former Labour transport minister, has accepted an invitation to participate in the Question Time session at the National Road Safety Conference 2012.

The conference is being hosted by Road Safety GB London Region, 14-15 November, and is co-sponsored by Colas, ALCOLOCK UK, RedSpeed International, and AA DriveTech.

Robert Gifford, executive director of PACTS will once again chair the ‘Question Time’ session and Mr Fitzpatrick is the first confirmed panellist. Question Time was one of the highlights of the 2011 conference and looks set to provide a lively forum once again this year.

Jim Fitzpatrick has been MP for Poplar and Limehouse – the constituency in which the conference is being held – since May 2010. His career includes a two-year spell as parliamentary under-secretary of state at the DfT between 2007-9.

Although he has always harboured an interest in politics, in 1974 Mr Fitzgerald became a firefighter with the London Fire Brigade, in a career with the fire service which spanned 23 years. Away from work he is a keen supporter of West Ham Utd.
