Green accolade for Medway’s ‘Walking Bus’

Medway Council’s road safety team has won a Green Apple Environmental Award for its innovative ‘Walking Bus Stops’.

The Green Apple Awards are organised by The Green Organisation, an environmental group dedicated to recognising and promoting environmental best practice. Medway Council was competing against more than 500 other nominations in the national campaign to find Britain’s greenest companies, councils and communities.

The Walking Bus Stops are permanent pick-up stops (sponsored by local organisations) on Medway’s Walking Bus Scheme, which aims to reduce congestion, improve air quality and the road safety skills of children travelling to and from school.

The road safety team has been invited to have the winning entry published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice, so that others around the world can follow their example.

The Green Apple Award will be presented at a ceremony at the House of Commons in November.
