Following the huge success of the Tour de France ‘Grand Depart’, Berkshire has its own five-day cycling festival in July with plenty of opportunities to deliver safety messages.

The five-day Urban Limits – Tour of Berkshire (22-26 July) will include guided rides, bike display teams, free bike mechanics, advice and information, and a host of cycling challenges.

Teams from Berkshire’s five local authorities, supported by Thames Valley Police, will be on hand to answer questions about how to take up cycling including information about on and off-road routes in the area with giant maps on show.

The tour itinerary takes in Theale in West Berkshire, Wokingham, Slough, Bracknell and Maidenhead.

This year’s safety theme is ‘Look Out for Each Other’ with motorists and cyclists encouraged to change their behaviour to make the roads safer for everyone.

A series of video tutorials for cyclists have been uploaded to the Urban Limits’ website and specific advice for motorists will be published in the run up to the tour.

One of the main aims of the Tour of Berkshire is to convince the local community that cycling is a great way to save money, help the environment, and keep fit while staying safe.

Members of the public are invited to join one of the 10 guided rides with experts on hand to lead the way, providing a safety briefing to start and advice along the routes.
