Stakeholders to outline ‘the big picture’ at National Conference

The National Road Safety Conference 2015* will get underway on 18 November with a session titled ‘The big picture’ which will comprise a series of presentations from national road safety stakeholders outlining their priorities and strategy for the next 12-24 months.

The first presentation in the session, by video, will be delivered by Andrew Jones, road safety minister.

Andrew Jones was elected Conservative MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough in May 2010, and since then has been a Parliamentary Private Secretary on the health, business and transport teams. He became road safety minister following the General Election in May 2015.

DCC Tim Madgwick, National Police Chief Council’s (NPCC) lead for motorcycling, has more than 25 years’ experience with North Yorkshire Police.

Tim Madgwick joined North Yorkshire Police in 1988 and served in York as a constable, sergeant and inspector before becoming the chief constable’s staff officer and moving to police HQ in 2001. In 2007 he was appointed chief of staff to the chief constable. In 2009 he was made acting assistant chief constable and in 2011 he was promoted to the position of deputy chief constable.

Tim Lennon, head of campaigns at DfT, is responsible for leading the THINK! road safety campaign.

Tim has worked on government communication campaigns since 2008, including a role at the Home Office where he created one of the first government social media campaigns for the drugs advice service, FRANK.

Tim will use his conference presentation to outline the THINK! campaign strategy and calendar for the periods 2015/16 and 2016/17.

Nigel Hutchinson is the chief fire officer and chief executive of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, and in 2014 became CFOA’s strategic lead on road safety.

His fire service career began in West Yorkshire in 1983 and over the following 19 years he served in a variety of roles including operations, fire safety and training, holding senior management positions since 1997.

Since moving to North Yorkshire in 2002, he has been instrumental in aligning the organisation to be more outward facing, promoting joint working with other organisations for the purpose of improving community safety and wellbeing.

The session will also include a presentation from a representative from Highways England.

2015 National Road Safety Conference*
The 2015 National Road Safety Conference is being hosted by Road Safety GB East Midlands Region. More than 250 people have already registered to attend and 23 companies will be exhibiting alongside the conference.

The event, held at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham on November 18-19, is co-sponsored by Colas, AA DriveTech, Vysionics and Pepsico.
