A further two speakers have been confirmed for the inaugural National Data Analysts’ Conference as the agenda continues to take shape.
The vastly experienced Dr Adrian Davis and Teresa Healy from the Wales Road Casualty Reduction Partnership will speak at the event which takes place at the Royal College of Surgeons on 1 March.
Other confirmed speakers for the conference, which takes the theme ‘Joining the dots’, include: Dovile Adminaite, project officer at the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC); Bruce Walton, technical and analysis director of Road Safety Analysis (RSA); Dr Paul Hewson, associate professor in statistics, Plymouth University; and Dr Daryl Lloyd, the DfT’s head of road safety statistics.
Adrian Davis BA (Hons) PhD is the UK’s only health and transport specialist funded by a Public Health Directorate (since 2008). Placed in Bristol City Council’s transport department, he is leading on the council’s Safe Systems Approach to Road Safety.
Dr Davis’ work has focused on the health impacts of road transport, understanding the importance of health by transport planners, and the application of science in selecting which policies and practices most support health-enhancing travel behaviours.
Earlier in his long career he was a founding member of the Transport & Health Study Group (UK) in 1988, authored the British Medical Association’s first Transport Policy report in 1997 and has drafted reports for WHO on active travel and mobility.
A visiting professor at the University of the West of England since 2012, he was awarded an honorary Doctorate by the University in 2015 in recognition of his ‘multi-disciplinary approach and collaboration on transport and health’.
Dr Davis’ presentation will examine ‘effective decision-making in road safety: the primacy of an evidence-based approach’.
Teresa Healy’s work in the speed camera environment began in 2005 as data analyst for the then Mid & South Wales Safety Camera Partnership. in 2009 she was promoted to senior analyst and business manager, and is now operations manager for GoSafe, the Wales Road Casualty Reduction Partnership.
She has worked on a number of key GoSafe projects including the streamlining of speed survey management at sites and digitisation of fixed cameras, and is responsible for partnership-wide data and performance.
