Prince Charles is set to give road safety a boost as part of a visit to the Llandovery Motorbike Weekend (8-9 July).

The two-day event will be used to promote a number of safety initiatives including Bikesafe, Dragon Rider Cymru, Biker Down Cymru and the CRASH card scheme.

It will be officially launched by the Prince of Wales on Friday evening as he signals the start of a motorcycle parade. The parade will feature the emergency services and representatives from Carmarthenshire County Council’s road safety team.

A number of other organisations will also be in attendance, including IAM RoadSmart, RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders, the Motorcycle Action Group, Blood Bikes Wales and the GoSafe Wales Casualty Reduction Partnership.

Activities available over the weekend include a three-hour Biker Down course, a Dragon Rider taster session, the chance to sign up for a taster session with the IAM, and a number of ride-outs.

Cllr Hazel Evans, Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member for transport, said: “It is good to see The Prince give road safety the royal seal of approval by attending this event and launching the parade around the town.

“I hope people go along and support the two day event; it does carry a serious message but it also promises to be a lot of fun.”

Good to see some one of worth, though deemed controversial at times, supporting motorcyclists. Let’s hope it all goes well and that some riders don’t get too drunk for the drive home.

Lots of brilliant biking roads around Llandovery and up on the Beacons and several watering holes (tea and coffee of course – unless you are staying overnight!).
