The Road Safety GB Academy (The Academy) has launched a new website in a bid promote the training courses it offers to a wider audience here in the UK and further afield.
The new website – which features a translate function with more than 100 languages available – is partly in response to growing interest from across the globe in the training courses The Academy offers for road safety professionals.
Established in 2013, The Academy is the professional development arm of Road Safety GB. The Academy aspires to provide all practitioners engaged in road safety with support and guidance to develop and enhance the right tools and skills to deliver effective, evidence-led road safety interventions.
Membership of The Academy is offered free of charge to local authority road safety officers whose local authority employer is a member of Road Safety GB (subject to certain conditions).
Road safety practitioners working in the private and voluntary sectors can apply for membership for an annual fee of £35 plus VAT.
The training courses offered by The Academy include:
Road Safety Practitioner Foundation Course – provides an overview of the knowledge and skills needed to deliver a road safety educational intervention.
Behavioural Change Course – provides an insight into the world of behavioural change models and techniques, and how interventions can be developed.
Media Training Course – looks at the media landscape, including the role of PR, marketing, press releases and live TV/radio.
ADI CCL Course – helps driving instructors to develop client centred learning skills as required by the DVSA.
Primary School Setting – develops the skills needed to deliver an effective and engaging road safety intervention to primary school children.
Road Safety Evaluation – covers areas including reasons for evaluation, types of evaluation and best practice in evaluation planning.
Social Media Course – covers topics including an introduction and history of social media, building a fanbase and measuring and evaluating impact.
Managing work-related road safety – explains and illustrates how organisations can simply and effectively manage work-related road risk.
Sam Merison, director of The Academy, said: “The UK is widely recognised and respected as a global leader when it comes to road safety, and road safety stakeholders in other countries are keen to tap into the expertise and knowledge possessed by our practitioners.
“While our courses were primarily developed to enhance the skills of practitioners in the UK, it is becoming increasingly apparent they are equally suitable for delivery in other parts of the world.
“By delivering our courses on a much wider basis, we have the potential to help save crashes and casualties on a global basis, as well as here in the UK.
“The new website includes comprehensive information about our growing portfolio of training courses, including the dates and venues, cost of attending, and an online booking facility.
“Over the coming weeks we will be removing the information within the training section on the Road Safety GB website and redirecting people to the new Academy website.”
