North Yorkshire’s road safety team is running a two-day course to help ADIs to deliver a ‘client centred learning’ (CCL) experience, as required by the DVSA’s new standard check.
The rules regarding ADI checks changed in April 2014, placing a greater emphasis on the ADI’s ability to deliver a CCL experience. CCL incorporates a number of instructional approaches including problem solving, reflective and other active learning techniques.
The DVSA changes are designed to improve road safety and at the same time improve the learning experience. Under the new Standards Check, ADIs are specifically assessed on lesson planning, risk management and teaching and learning strategies.
The two-day CCL course has been developed by Road Safety GB in partnership with Ian Edwards, director of e-Driving Solutions.
David Clark, North Yorkshire Council’s driver training officer, said: “We have previously run two CCL courses, one in October and one in December 2014.
“Of the 15 instructors who have attend three have since taken their standards check, all achieving a grade A.”
The next course is being held on 4-5 February in Harrogate. The course fee of £140.00 includes refreshments and a light lunch and one year membership of the Road Safety GB Academy. It is open to driving instructors from across the UK.
