Project EDWARD announces July line up of webinars

09.19 | 26 June 2026 |

Project EDWARD has an ambitious programme of live discussions and webinars taking place throughout July, bringing together leading voices from across policing, academia, policy and practice to explore some of the most pressing issues in road safety.

These events are designed for road safety professionals, policymakers, enforcement leaders and practitioners committed to delivering meaningful reductions in road harm.

Together, they reflect Project EDWARD’s continued focus on collaboration, evidence-led practice and sustained action across the road safety community.

The July series begins on Friday 3 July (08:00–09:00) with the First Friday Conversation, supported by Westcotec and featuring Dr Tim Johnson of Cardiff University Medical School.

Dr Johnson will examine the growing role of realistic road collision simulation exercises in training rescuers, investigators and future clinicians, highlighting how immersive, carefully scripted scenarios can enhance understanding of the patient journey and strengthen multi-agency collaboration under pressure.

On Thursday 9 July (11:00–12:00), Project EDWARD will host the fourth and final webinar in its Protecting Young Drivers series, led by police and crime commissioners Joy Allen and Philip Seccombe. The session will focus on the role of pre-driver education, exploring what approaches are most effective and what does not work.

Joy and Philip will explore how limited resources can be targeted for maximum impact, while also reflecting on key insights from across the series and considering the forthcoming introduction of Graduated Driver Licensing in Northern Ireland and its implications for young driver safety.

Later the same day (14:00–16:00), Project EDWARD will co-host a strategic webinar with Agilysis: Maintaining Momentum: Six Months On from the Government’s Road Safety Strategy.

This session will bring together senior contributors from policing, policy, data and local delivery to assess progress, explore how national ambitions are translating into local action through the Safe System approach, and conclude with a forward-looking panel on priorities and key levers for the next six months.

Finally, on Friday 10 July (11:00–12:00), attention turns to Safer Motorcycling, a session supported by Redspeed International and dedicated to the memory of Professor Alex Stedmon, whose pioneering work on PRIME road markings has contributed significantly reductions in motorcycle casualties.

The webinar will feature contributions from Tom Duckham (Redspeed International) on the Sentio Standard, David Mackenzie (Transport Scotland) with results from Phase Two of Project PRIME, PC Nick Thomas (South Wales Police) on tackling antisocial motorcycling, and Heidi Duffy MBE (National Young Rider Forum) on the latest research and initiatives to protect 16–24-year-old motorcyclists, especially those riding for work.

The session will also hear from new rider Dylan Luckhurst, a 16-year-old who will have just completed his Compulsory Basic Training and will bring a fresh, real-world perspective – including questions – to the expert panel.
