A free event at the Silverstone circuit later this month is designed to increase road safety awareness among Northamptonshire’s residents and “build on the work already carried out to make the county’s roads among the safest in Britain”.
Northamptonshire Highways, Northamptonshire Police and the county’s fire service have teamed up to organise Get Road Smart@Silverstone on Sunday 18 May.
The event will include opportunities for riders and drivers of different ages to take vehicles around the circuit and receive guidance on their driving skills, a hydraulic car crash simulator, police pursuit demonstrations and rescue demonstrations by the fire brigade.
Drivers will also have the chance to use remote controlled cars while wearing ‘beer goggles’ and safety experts will check child car seats to make sure they are installed correctly.
John Spencer, Northamptonshire Highways’ road safety manager, said: “This is a great opportunity to showcase all the important casualty reduction work that goes on in this county and to reinforce our road safety messages to a large, captive audience.”
Inspector Jen Helm, Northamptonshire Police, said: “This is an opportunity for the whole family to explore and learn more about road safety in a really entertaining environment.”

Well done – another open to all safety initiative. Excellent.

This looks like it will be a fantastic day out, I hope the free event will be a ‘sell out’.
