A road safety tour of the UK, fronted by TV presenter and Drive iQ Ambassador Sophie Morgan, has been launched to coincide with the start of Road Safety Week.
Paralysed in a car crash when aged 18 years, Sophie Morgan recently presented the BBC documentary ‘Licence to Kill‘ which explored why driving is now the biggest killer of young people aged 16-25 years.
The Licence To Kill School Tour, which is supported by BBC Learning, was launched at the start of Road Safety Week on 18 November at Richmond Upon Thames College. Teams of young people attended the event to hear Sophie talk about the challenges facing novice drivers and how best to overcome them.
Sophie will now visit every BBC region of the UK over the academic year to talk to young people about the dangers of driving. She will also provide the free educational software, Drive iQ, an online platform for beginner and young drivers, which highlights hazardous road scenarios in a virtual environment.
Drive IQ is designed to help accelerate frontal lobe maturation, which is not usually fully developed until early to mid-twenties, and improve skills often lacking in young drivers such as anticipating danger, risk management and considering emotional response. It is also designed to encourage young people to be a responsible passenger.
