A viral film produced by Road Safety for North West has been highly commended in the International Visual Communicator’s Association Awards.
‘Speed Dating’, which has had six million views on YouTube, also received a Royal Television Society Award in October 2009.
The film shows young people messing about in cars with fatal consequences to highlight the dangers of driver distraction.
Kat Whitemoss, Road Safety for North West, said: “While road casualties are falling nationally, fatal and serious crashes involving young drivers are not.
“A change of tack was required so we commissioned focus groups with young people who told us they want viral media relevant to them. They also helped us with what does and doesn’t work.
“Once the film was made, we checked back with them to make sure we’d got it right. If just one person out of those six million keeps their eyes on the road – saving them and their mates – it will be worth it.’
