Speed awareness courses are being introduced into Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire by West Mercia Police.
Motorists caught driving just a few miles over the limit can now opt to take part in a course run by the TTC Group as an alternative to receiving penalty points and a fine.
The TTC Group, which won the contract after a competitive tendering process, also runs speed awareness courses in South Yorkshire and Merseyside and is due to introduce the scheme into Cumbria and Wales.
The organisation is also the UK’s largest provider of courses for convicted drink drivers.
For more information visit www.ttc-uk.com or call 0845 270 4363.
I hope that these fines/charges will go towards traffic calming measures in the location of the offence and not towards social security or other unworthy, expensive burdens on society.

I think like myself, there are a lot of people who were not actually speeding but they realise how unfair the system – ie not allowed to see the evidence unless you go to court – it is another revenue grabbing scheme.

Sod’s law that it’s only introduced from May. My car was caught doing 35 in a 30 in january and the idea of a course was laughed at 🙁
