One of the UK’s leading suppliers of vehicle-activated signs has been unveiled as a new co-sponsor of the 2020 National Road Safety Conference.
Delegate registration opened a little over a fortnight ago, with almost 100 people already registered to attend.
An outline of the topics to be covered on the agenda has been published, and a call for papers will be issued later this month.
Founded in 2001 and based in Norfolk, Westcotec provides its local authority clients with a comprehensive range of products including speed signs and vehicle activated signs as well as air pollution monitoring and thermal detection collision avoidance systems
In 2018, Westcotec launched a mobile phone detection system, which is now being used by Thames Valley and Hampshire’s Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, and South Yorkshire Police, as well as exported to New Zealand, Canada and Slovenia and is currently undergoing evaluation with Dubai Police as well as other Emirates
In September 2019, Westcotec delivered its 10,000th sign, a major milestone for the company.
Liz Brooker MBE, chair of Road Safety GB, said: “We are really delighted that Westcotec have agreed to step up to co-sponsor National Conference this year, having previously been involved with the event as an exhibitor.
“We’ve enjoyed an excellent relationship with Chris Spinks and the team at Westcotec over many years and look forward to extending this further in their new role as co-sponsor of our flagship event”
Chris Spinks, managing director at Westcotec, said: “We see the Road Safety GB National Conference as the foremost gathering of road safety professionals in the UK.
“We have participated for a number of years as exhibitors and the event is always well organised with a cross section of the industry for us to interact with over the two days.
“This year we wanted to play a bigger part in the event and give a bit back by way of thanks for the support Road Safety GB and Nick Rawlings and his team have shown us over the years and so we are delighted to be co-sponsoring the event alongside Jenoptik.”
National Conference returns to Harrogate
2020 will be the second time National Conference has been held at The Majestic in Harrogate, with the 2013 event also staged at the same venue.
The Majestic has recently benefitted from a £15 million pound refurbishment, completed just before the end of 2019, and is now formally known as the DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate.
The hotel is one of Harrogate’s landmark buildings, sitting in landscaped gardens overlooking the beautiful North Yorkshire spa town. It is within walking distance of shopping, dining and historical attractions and a comfortable 10-minute walk from the bus and train stations. There is plentiful onsite car parking.
For the National Conference, Road Safety GB has secured total occupancy of The Majestic’s 184 bedrooms, with overflow rooms in an adjacent hotel.
The 2020 National Conference is being organised by a committee drawn from the Road Safety GB Yorkshire and Humberside Region.
Following feedback from 2019 National Conference attendees, the decision has been taken to start the conference earlier on day one (11am on 10 Nov) – and finish immediately after lunch on day two (11 Nov), with a series of optional workshops in the afternoon.
In view of this, there is the option for attendees to book accommodation (B&B) at The Majestic the evening prior to the conference (9 Nov).
