Hackney Council has enlisted the help of a local community media organisation to produce a road safety film for young people.
The council says statistics show pedestrian casualty rates in Hackney continue to rise throughout the teenage years, while engagement with KS4&5 pupils becomes more difficult due to crowded school timetables.
Therefore, it has teamed up with Mouth That Roars (MTR) to produce a film designed to engage with young adults with regards to safer road crossing.
MTR is a youth media organisation set up with the sole purpose of training young people in film production who wouldn’t ordinarily have access to media resources.
MTR enables young people who are misrepresented, a space to be heard and a medium in which they can voice their thoughts and feelings.

It is hoped that by sharing this film in schools and on social media, Hackney’s road safety team can reach a demographic that it is currently unable to by other means and remind young people that you are never too old for road safety.
Max Moorcock, road safety officer, Hackney Council, said: “Who better to create content to appeal to young people in Hackney?
“Denise Rose, who I approached at MTR, was extremely keen not only to produce the film, but also knew that it would also develop the road safety skills of the neurodivergent young people who made up the production team.”
