Road Safety GB recently participated in an international road safety workshop organised by the German Jordanian University (GJU).

The workshop took place as a hybrid event held in person at the university in Jordan along with many other participants joining online. It featured speakers from Germany, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the UK.

Road Safety GB’s executive director James Gibson gave a presentation about casualty reduction achievements in Great Britain. The presentation covered road safety interventions that have made a significant difference, and future road safety developments that are on the horizon in the UK.

An earlier collaboration back in 2018 between Road Safety GB and the GJU saw RSGB Academy courses delivered through the university.

James Gibson, said: “It was a pleasure to speak at the workshop and to share the casualty reduction achievements that have been made through collective effort in the UK.

“It was also a useful opportunity to explain to an international audience more broadly about Road Safety GB, the Academy courses we run and the National Conference that is being held in November.”

H.E Eng. Yahya Al Kasbi, the Jordanian minister of public works and housing, stressed that road safety is a joint responsibility between government organisations, explaining that the ministry is currently working within an action plan to improve safety on the country’s main roads.

Dr. Mohammad Hamed, director of The Road Safety Center for Excellence (RSCE) at GJU, explained that there is much work to be done in Jordan to bring forward casualty reduction, and said ideas from the workshop will be considered by Jordanian road safety professionals and officials.
