Suzy Charman and Emily Cherry recognised in King’s Honours List

Dr Suzy Charman, executive director of the Road Safety Foundation, has seen her services to road safety recognised with an OBE in the The King’s 2026 Birthday Honours List, with Emily Cherry, chief executive of The Bikeability Trust, awarded a MBE.

Dr Charman (pictured above) is a leading expert on the Safe System, with more than 20 years’ experience.

In her role at the Road Safety Foundation (RSF), Dr Charman leads the United Kingdom Road Assessment Programme and is a recognised thought-leader on speed management and infrastructure safety.  

Prior to joining RSF, she served as head of international road safety at TRL and before that played a pivotal role in the establishment of the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP).

Taking to LinkedIn, Dr Charman said: “My little name is among some truly great ones in the King’s birthday honours. It is rather overwhelming and very surprising! 

“When I got the letter I thought I was being called up for jury service and when I read it I cried! It means so much! 

“Thank you to everyone who has been on my journey with me – team road safety is full of incredibly brilliant, passionate and insightful people, many of whom I call friends.”

Emily Cherry has been awarded a MBE

Elsewhere, Emily Cherry, chief executive of The Bikeability Trust, has been awarded an MBE for services to active travel for young people.

Emily joined The Bikeability Trust in 2020 and has spent more than 25 years’ in the children’s sector, largely at the NSPCC, but also at the Children’s Society and Barnardo’s. 

She has experience of running safeguarding services, policy, comms and is a well-known media voice on children, especially in the field of online safety.
