Around 15,000 children from 111 schools took part in South Lanarkshire Council’s annual road safety calendar competition.
The pupils were challenged to come up with a design around the theme of road safety and sustainable energy.
Beth Damer, from Abington Primary School in Clydesdale, won the competition with her innovative design, titled ‘Take the People Train’. She will receive £100 and a trophy – and her painting features in the 2011 road safety calendar.
Cllr John Murray, chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s roads safety forum, said: “Once again, the standard of entries this year was absolutely first-class and the standard seems to get better each year.
“All the judges commented on how difficult it was to pick an overall winner, but Beth’s design was well deserving of this year’s prize.
“I would like to thank every pupil in each school who took part – their support and help ensures that the road safety calendar competition remains such a success.”
