Limited places remain available for a free workshop taking place as part of Road Safety GB’s online cycle safety event.

The interactive workshop, which takes place on Wednesday 9 June (11:00-12:00), will include examples of initiatives introduced under the Emergency Active Travel Fund (EATF).

Facilitated by Matt Staton, Road Safety GB’s director of research, the workshop will include presentations by:

  • Nikola Floodgate, schemes planning and development manager, Kent County Council
  • Ian Edwards, director, New View Consultants
  • Cheryl Evans, senior road safety officer, West Berkshire Council

Topics likely to be covered in the workshop include:

  • Lessons learned from how consultation with stakeholders was managed within the short timeframes
  • Using Experimental Traffic Regulation Orders
  • Combining engagement and infrastructure measures
  • What success looks like?
  • How EATF may have influenced/or might influence future practice

Registration for the workshop, which takes place on Zoom, is now open – with limited places still remaining.

Timed agenda published
The three-week event, titled ‘More cycling, safer cyclists: how can we make it safer for more people to cycle, more often?’, will be aired free-to-all during June 2021, commencing Monday 7 June.

The programme will comprise a mix of pre-recorded and live content including video presentations, podcasts, workshops and discussions.

Organisers have now published a timed agenda, outlining when sessions are taking place.

Opening the event will be Sharon Goodsell, head of vulnerable road user safety at the DfT, with a pre-recorded presentation.

Sharon will speak about a review of The Highway Code to improve safety for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders. This was a priority for the DfT following a consultation on cycle safety where it was identified as a key action to enable more people to cycle and walk safely.

A consultation on the proposed changes generated the highest response rate the DfT has ever known, and Sharon will outline the feedback and next steps.
