A free Question Time session taking place this morning as part of Road Safety GB’s online cycling event will discuss how to make it safer for more people to cycle, more often.
The session, which is being facilitated on Zoom, takes place between 11am – 12pm.
Registration is still open, and will remain so until 10.45am.
The panellists for the session, hosted by Nick Rawlings, are:
- Fatima Ahmed, road safety manager, London Borough of Hounslow
- Rachel Aldred, professor of transport, Westminster University
- Michael Corden, head of training, Cycle Confident and BikeRight
- David Davies, executive director, PACTS
Among the topics up for debate are the Government’s Cycling & Walking Investment Strategy, cycling infrastructure in the UK, how to get more people to sign up for cycle training – and whether there’s evidence showing it reduces collisions and casualties.
Attendees will also be able to ask questions during the session.
Final presentation looks at community-led projects
The three-week event, titled ‘More cycling, safer cyclists: how can we make it safer for more people to cycle, more often?’, will be aired free-to-all until 25 June.
That means tomorrow is the final day of the event.
It is being marked with a presentation by Mitchell Robinson, cycling and walking development officer, Transport for West Midlands (TfWM).
Mitchell has been working within the cycling and walking team at TfWM for the last five years, working on both infrastructure and activation projects across the region.
His main focus has been delivering projects that are small-scale, including the Better Streets Community Fund, Cycle Parking for Organisations scheme and launching social prescribing for cycling and walking across the region.
Mitchell’s presentation will explain how these community-led active travel projects can make a real difference.
