Live presentation focuses on encouraging ‘Cycling for All’

The first live presentation of Road Safety GB’s online cycling event takes place this morning, looking at how Hounslow has created an inclusive environment for cycling.

The presentation, which gets underway at 11am, is being facilitated by Fatima Ahmed, road safety manager at the London Borough of Hounslow.

Registration for Fatima’s session, titled Cycling for All, is free-of-charge and remains open until 10.30am.

It is anticipated Fatima will present for around 20 minutes, before inviting questions from attendees. The session will be recorded and made available at a later date for anyone unable to attend on the day.

Fatima Ahmed was part of Cycling UK’s 100 Women in Cycling 2019 list for her instrumental role in getting more people on bikes in Hounslow.

Back in 2016/17 there were just under 100 people attending Hounslow’s adult cycle training sessions, but under Fatima’s watch participants jumped to 1,686 by 2019.

Encouragingly, more than 80% of the participants are women and from ethnic minority backgrounds, with a huge age range from 16-82 years.

Registration remains open for final two live events
The three-week event, titled ‘More cycling, safer cyclists: how can we make it safer for more people to cycle, more often?’, is being aired free-to-all until 25 June.

The programme comprises a mix of pre-recorded and live content including video presentations, a workshop and a Question Time session. All the pre-recorded content will be published on the programme page at 10am on its advertised day.

Dates, times and registration details for the live sessions are also available on the programme page.

Registration remains open for the event’s second live presentation, which takes place at 14.00 on Wednesday 23 June.

Titled A cycle-friendly Wales – transforming places in Wales through 20mph default speed limits and safe and convenient infrastructure, the presentation is being facilitated by Natalie Grohmann and Ian Bradfield from the Welsh Government.
