A presentation at this year’s Young Driver Focus will examine whether automated training and testing on driving simulators can lower the collision risk of young drivers.

Now in its seventh year, Young Driver Focus examines current and future thinking with regard to the vital issue of reducing crashes and casualties among young drivers and their passengers.

Young Driver Focus is jointly organised by FirstCar, Road Safety GB and the RAC Foundation.

The 2022 edition will be the first held since 2019 – as a result of the Covid pandemic – and will take place once again at the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall, London on Wednesday 25 May. It runs with the strapline, ‘Technology Matters’.

Registration is now open, with tickets available from £150 (plus VAT) for Road Safety GB and Academy members.

The agenda continues to take shape and the latest speaker to be confirmed is Jorrit Kuipers, CTO and founder of Green Dino – a Dutch organisation which develops driving simulators.

Jorrit will present a cohort study from The Netherlands around the use of driving simulators with automated instruction and assessment and how this influences accidents post the driving test.

He will examine if automated training and testing on driving simulators can lower the accident risk of young car drivers.

The full agenda, which also includes roads minister Baroness Vere of Norbiton, can be found via the event website.
