Young drivers in Essex encouraged to make small changes

A campaign which encourages young drivers in Essex to pledge to improve a particular aspect of their driving is returning for another year.

Statistics show road crashes are the biggest killer of 17-25 year olds in the UK.

To help combat this, the #mysmallchange campaign asks young drivers and passengers to pledge a small change that will inspire others and help save lives.

The campaign is organised by the Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP), who will be leading the #mysmallchange tour, with a variety of road safety interventions.

The first stop is at the Braintree Village Shopping Centre today (31 August).

Young drivers who live, work or study in Essex – and make a pledge – will be entered into a prize draw, with prizes ranging from £50 amazon vouchers to £500 towards car insurance.

Caroline Churchouse, communications manager for SERP, said: “Nearly 200 young people were either killed or seriously injured on Essex roads last year. The partnership has an ambition to bring this number down to zero by 2040, so it’s really important for all to get behind campaigns such as this.

“The pandemic has meant we’ve only been able to promote the campaign digitally, but now with restrictions being lifted, the team will be touring Essex again.

“If you are a young or pre-driver, or know someone who is, point them in the direction of our campaign and help us save lives on Essex roads.”
